Brasil Gerson is a good example of market expansion and appropriation of new technologies in the twenties and therties. As we know, modernism celebrates modern society without necessarily connecting artwork back to life, while the avant-garde uses radical new ideas to reinforce dramatic political and social changes. Where both of them meet, they exist in a symbiotic relationship, with the avant-garde pulling modernism to new thresholds of social progress.
